June 28, 2017

Dear KWI Customers,

This announcement DOES NOT affect clients using Verifone payment devices.

As of February 15 2018, KWI can no longer support credit and debit card payments for the following:

  • Any Coalition 5 registers
  • POS registers running on Windows 2000 or Windows XP operating systems with Ingenico PIN pads
  • Cloud 9 POS devices with IPC sleds and payment servers running on Windows 2000 or Windows XP

This is because:

  • As of this date, First Data will be updating their payment service to only allow TLS 1.2 connections. Systems running on Windows 2000 or Windows XP do not support TLS 1.2. As a result, those systems will not be able to process credit or debit card payments unless you upgrade your system.
  • Windows 2000 and Windows XP are not Microsoft-supported operating systems.

We recommend upgrading to the Cloud 9 POS system. If you have any questions or want to discuss other upgrade options, please contact your KWI Relationship Manager.

Note that KWI will be updating POS registers on Windows POSReady and Windows 7 operating systems to comply with the new TLS 1.2 security standard.

Sincerely,
Your KWI Team

Dear KWI Customers,

We're updating our KWI Back Office website to use the more secure Transport Layer Security (TLS) 1.2 security standard. (The KWI Back Office website lets you run reports, replenish stock, and perform many other functions.)

If you're using POS Coalition 5 or Store 6 registers running on Windows XP, Windows 2000, or Windows POSReady, you'll be prevented from accessing this website from the register.

We'll be upgrading from TLS 1.0 to TLS 1.2 in early January 2017. Upgrading to TLS 1.2 is a Payment Card Industry (PCI) requirement. If your register is on Windows XP, Windows 2000, or Windows POSReady, and accessing the Back Office website from the register is important to your organization, contact KWI to discuss options for upgrading your operating system to Windows 7, which supports TLS 1.2. Alternatively, Windows XP or Windows POSReady users can access the Back Office website from the register using Mozilla Firefox To download and install both Firefox and the required Java update, follow the instructions located here: Firefox and Java Update

May 10, 2016

Dear KWI Customers,

We are updating our KWI Back Office website to use the SHA-2 security standard. (The KWI Back Office website lets you run reports, replenish stock, and perform many other functions.)

Windows 2000
If you're using Store 5 Coalition registers running on Windows 2000, you will be prevented from accessing this website.

Windows XP/Windows POSReady
If you're using Store 5/Store 6 Coalition registers running on Windows XP or Windows POSReady, you may be prevented from accessing this website. If successful, you may still receive a warning message in your browser. Clicking Yes on this dialog box will allow you to safely navigate to the KWI Back Office website.

We will be transitioning from SHA-1 to SHA-2 encryption certificates in late May or early June. If you are blocked from accessing the KWI Back Office website or if you want to eliminate the warning dialog box, contact KWI to discuss upgrading options.

Backstory on transition from SHA-1 to SHA-2
Due to known security vulnerabilities with the Secure Hash Algorithm-1 (SHA-1) encryption certificate, certificate authorities (such as GoDaddy and VeriSign) no longer issue SHA-1 certificates for websites. SHA-1 certificates are being replaced by the more secure and up-to-date SHA-2 certificates. KWI must therefore move from SHA-1 to SHA-2 certificates. (You can read more about the deprecation of SHA-1 here: Microsoft Security Advisory 2880823: Deprecation of SHA-1 Hashing Algorithm for Microsoft Root Certificate Program.)

Sincerely,
Your KWI Team

Dear KWI Customers,

Recently KWI discovered an instance where some users would experience slow response times when attempting to log in to the KWI Back Office. Although only a small group of users were impacted, the KWI team is continuously striving to provide the optimal experience for our clients.

As of May 3rd, 2016 we are deploying a patch that amends the validation algorithm used to log in to the KWI Back Office. At this time, in order to take advantage of the deployed patch and enable the enhanced login experience, you need to update your password via the following steps:

  1. Log in to the KWI Back Office
  2. Google search for "Change Password" (or access via the menu path Security > Set-up > Change Password)
  3. Enter your current password
  4. Enter and then re-enter your new password (make sure to adhere to password security requirements)
  5. Click "Update"

It is important that our KWI user community has a safe, secure and efficient experience while on the KWI enterprise platform. The KWI Team will continue to provide enhancements to support you throughout your journey.

Sincerely,
Your KWI Team
